Taylor grew up in a small Texas town and joined the Army in 1997 as an 11B Infantryman. He went to basic training and advanced individual training (OSUT) at Fort Benning, Georgia. Shortly after he was assigned to a 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

After some time in the Infantry Taylor opted for a career change and became a 91B Combat Medic in 2001 graduating mere days after the attacks of September 11, 2001. Taylor was then assigned as a Combat Medic to the 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment at Fort Riley, Kansas. While stationed in Kansas he was deployed to several locations overseas, as well as the initial combat invasion into Iraq in 2003, with another combat deployment to Iraq in 2004.

Taylor was reassigned to Fort Sam Houston, Texas in 2006 where he served as an anti-terrorism advisor, OSHA and Safety officer, instructor, and training NCO.

In 2010 Taylor was assigned to 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Infantry Brigade Fort Carson, Colorado where he served as a Medical Evacuation Platoon Sergeant. While stationed at Fort Carson Taylor was involved in numerous large scale training exercises, a deployment to Afghanistan, a partnership and training deployment to Kuwait, as well as serving as a Warrior Transition Battalion Platoon Sergeant before his retirement in 2017.

During his time in service Taylor and his wife had 7 children. They currently have 5 grandchildren with one on the way and have been married for over 30 years.

Taylor currently works full-time as a Paramedic in a town near his home in Texas, coaches a competitive soccer team, and runs a YouTube channel called Sort Of Tactical where he provides reviews and insight into gear and shooting sports. He is also involved with several companies in testing and evaluating new and future products in the civilian and tactical fields.
